ARS CANTUS - Poland
It is a vocal group, founded in 2000 for the jubilee commemorating the millennium of Wrocław, working under Tomasz Dobrzański. It performs the music of bygone epochs, from the Middle Ages (songs from the medieval Carmina Burana, Ludi Sancti Nicolai) to the early Baroque (Salomone Rossi - Court and Synagogue Music). An essential part of their repertoire is the musical heritage of Lower Silesia, which reaches back to the manuscripts. The group performed in Belgium, Germany, Austria and gave concerts during festivals of early music in Wilanów, Jaroslaw, Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan and Wroclaw.
In 2001, Ars Cantus was awarded for its performance of medieval songs from the Carmina Burana collection. In 2003 it was nominated for the Fryderyk ?04 award. |

ARS NOVA - Poland
One of the most famous Polish music group, founded in 1981 by Jacek Urbaniak, who has been its artistic director since the beginning. The ensemble performs all over Europe, plays music of 13th ? 16th century, presents spectacles, records for Polish radio and TV. Their most outstanding achievements in phonographic is recording all works of Polish composers: Nicolaus from Radom and Piotr from Grudziądz. They gained a lot of prestigious awards, such as: the Brown Bear Prize at radio competition, the Fryderyk?96 award for recorded music. |

ARDENTE SOLE - Poland
Ardente Sole (Blazing Sun) is Poland's foremost dancing ensemble of the Renaissance and Baroque epochs, founded in 1997 in Krakow, is led by Romana Agnel. It specializes in systematic study and rediscovery of traditional court dances. Their spectacles present court events and old customs of old Europe. Dancers cooperate with foreign artists, perform in their country and abroad, make recordings for Polish TV. It has been a frequent guest at various international festivals, such as the Johann Sebastian Bach Festival in St Donat (France), the Medieval Festival in St Antoine (France), the International Summer Early Music Academy in Wilanów (Poland). In August 2000 Ardente sole appeared at the first Court Dance Festival in Kraków. |

It was established in 1994. Its founder and artistic director is Ewa Gęga-Osowska. Basso Continuo is a laureate of Days of Early Music in Żywiec (the third place), Żywiec'98 (the First Prize). It gave concerts in Belgium and Czech. In 2000 it recorded CD. The ensemble plays baroque compositions. |

BORNUS CONSORT - Poland
The early music ensemble Bornus Consort was established in 1981 by Marcin Bornus-Szczycinski on the commission of dr. Ewa Obniska. The members of the group reconstruct and record the medieval and renaissance music. For many years the group?s main specialisation was Polish 16-17th-century music, then they were interested in earlier music. The group?s first important undertaking concerning medieval music was performing the 13th-century liturgical drama ?Ludus Danielis? (Warsaw Grand Theatre, 1984). Recordings of the ensemble were thrice nominated for the prestigious award Fryderyk. |

CAPELLA GEDANENSIS - Poland
The vocal - instrumantal ensemble was established in 1981 in Gdansk on Alina Kowalska Pińczak's initiative. In their repertoire they have a wide range works of Gdansk composers from 16th - 18th century. The music of Gdańsk performed by the ensemble is regularly featured in radio and television programmes broadcast by stations in Poland and abroad. Moreover, they play great works of music literature, compositions of G.F. Händel, J.S. Bach, A. Vivaldi, G.B. Pergolesi, W.A. Mozart, F. Schubert. An album of Christmas carols recorded by the Cappella entitled ?The New Year at the Holy Father?s? won a Platinum Disc. In 2002 they received the Golden Record for "The Quatro Staggioni" by A. Vivali. Capella Gedanensis gives concerts all over the world, takes part in numerous festivals. |

Concerto Polacco was formed in 1991 by Marek Toporowski, a renowned Polish harpsichord and organ player. Concerto Polacco is a real baroque orchestra performing with period instruments. The principal aim of the ensemble is to present the greatest masterpieces of vocal and instrumental music with the main emphasis on 17th and 18th century music. Its repertoire consists of renaissance, baroque, classical and romantic music, such as: cantata, opera, oratorium and French baroque music. The early music ensemble, founded in 1999, is specializing in Western-European music of Middle Ages and Renaissance. It gives concerts in Russia (Petrozavodsk, Moscow, St.Petersburg, Murmansk, the Republic of Karelia) and abroad, took part in festivals of middle-age culture, early music, folk music in Russia, Bielarus, Poland and Finland, recorded 4 CDs.

ENSEMBLE GILLES BINCHOIS - France
The Ensemble Gilles Binchois, founded in 1979, is a group dedicated to the discovery and interpretation of music from the Middle Ages, renaissance and later times. It is directed by Dominique Vellard, one of the most distinguished scholar-performers working in the field of medieval music. In its repertoire there are Gregorian chant, Notre Dame School compositions, music of Guillaum de Machaut, Claudio Monteverdi, Heinrich Schutz, Dietrich Buxtehude, Johan Sebastian Bach. The Ensemble Gilles Binchois has received public recognition throughout Europe as the result of its recordings, tours and concerts in France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Spain, Holland, Switzerland as well as Hungary, Baltic Countries, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Ukraine, Lithuania and Romania. It took Victoires de la Musique'99 nominee for its CD containing songs composed by Gilles Binchois. Its work includes over 30 CDs. |

It is the laureate of many international prizes (Tampere in Finland, Arezzo and Gorizia in Italy). The ensemble has existed since 2001, works under Edyta Środa's leadership. La Famma recorded compositions of: J. S. Bach, C. Ph. E. Bach and J. C. F. Fischer for radio in Germany. In 2003 it was a finalist at Biagio Marini Wettbewerb music competition in Bayern. |

MĘSKI ZESPÓŁ WOKALNY - Poland
It has worked at Orthodox Church in Lublin since 2003 under Andrzej Boublej. The ensemble took part in many festivals in Poland: Hajnówka, Terespol, Włodawa, Białystok, Puławy. It gives many concerts and cooperates with Polish Radio and TV.
Their repertoire includes some liturgical and paraliturgical songs taken from orthodox church tradition and written for one and many voices, psalms, ecclesiastical songs and hymns, from 16th century to the present time. |

The Czech group is an association of musicians. They aim to found, arrange and play composes of old masters in their original way. The group uses old system of tuning, old techniques of singing and playing. Musicians play authentic instruments or their faithful copies, from fiddles, horns and lutes to bird whistles and jew's-harps. They arrange composes on their own basing on a careful study of the extant music pieces. The artistic director of the ensemble is Michael Pospisil. |

He studied in the class of Joachim Grubich at Music Academy in Cracow and then under Hans van Nieuwkoop in Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. He is a laureate of international organ competition in Arnstadt. In Poland and abroad he plays organ recitals and performs as a conductor and a chamber musician. He is also an artistic director of Harmonologia Orchesta and chamber choir called "Dolnośląski Chór Kameralny". He is a lecturer at Music Academy in Wraclaw and an artistic director of International Bach Festival in Świdnica. |

ROMANA AGNEL - Poland
She is a dancer, choreogapher, art historian, founder of the Ardente Sole (Burning Sun) Balletto with whom she has staged many unparalleled projects. She is a graduate from Ballet Public School (class of prof. Marta Mirocka) in Krakow. She improved her skills in historical and court dances in France, first under Antoinetta Gueda, and then Martine Pichon. Moreover, she accomplished her professional training by special classes with Cecilia Gracio Moura and by working with Marie-Genevieve Massé at the Théatre Baroque de France. Romana Agnel has been active in Poland and France. In France as a soloist with Le Bal Paré; in Poland as a choreographer and dancer cooperates with the Warsaw Chamber Opera and the Bücklein Theater in Krakow. At the Academy of Music in Krakow she leads classes of historical dances. She gained a number of prestigious awards. In 2000 she organized the first in the world Festival of Court Dances in Wawel Royal Castle in Krakow. |

KRZYSZTOF BACULEWSKI - Poland
He is a Polish composer and musicologist. He graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Music in 1974 and then he continued his studies in Vienna and in Paris (1975-76), where he focused on composition and music analysis under Olivier Messiaen's direction, and studied electronic music. From 1979 to 1986 Baculewski lectured at the Warsaw University. Since 1982 he has been an instructor at the Composition, Conducting and Theory Department at F. Chopin Academy of Music, Warsaw. He has won many competitions for composers. His compositions have been performed in Poland, Finland, France, USA, Germany, Mexico, Hungary and South America among other places in Szczecin and Warsaw.
He is also a writer of two books on Polish modern music and an author of many scientific, critical and journalistic writing. Baculewski wrote a few vocal-instrumental, orchestra, chamber and solo composition. In 2001 for the jubilee commemorating the fifth year of the International Festival of Early Music named after Nicolaus from Radom, Krzysztof Baculewski specially composed a Cantata for soprano and bass solo, mixed choir and baroque orchestra.

BENEDEK CSALOG - Hungary
Born in Budapest, he studied at the Franz Liszt Conservatory with Tihamér Elek, then at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Barthold Kuijken. He performs throughout Europe, in the United States, Brazil, Japan and the Middle East, and he is regularly invited to play as soloist at the important early music festivals. He won first prize at the Baroque Flute Artist Competition in Orlando in 1995 as well as first prize at the Musica Antiqua competition in Bruges in 1996. He has recorded many CDs as a soloist for Hungaroton and several German labels. Benedek Csalog teaches the baroque flute at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig, and regularly gives master-classes in Europe and Japan. He is a guest professor at the Franz Doppler Institute in Budapest and artistic director of the Summer School for Early Music in Tokaj. He also teaches at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, Poland. |

GUSTAW HOLOUBEK - Poland
Exceptional theatre and film actor and stage director, educator, professor at Warsaw PWST. He was born in Krakow in 1923, where he graduated from B. Nowodworski High School in Krakow. For a few years he worked as an actor and an artistic director at a local theatre in Katowice. He also debuted as a theatre director and started his pedagogical work in the city. Since 1958 he has been connected with Warsaw. He performed as an actor in the Polish Theatre, the National Theatre, the Dramatic Theatre and the Athenaeum Theatre. He carried out many roles tied up with artistic life in the capital of Poland. Holoubek was awarded a lot of prizes for theatrical, film and television roles as well as for direction. He died in March, 2008. |

She is a musicologist, a graduate of Warsaw University. Since 1982 she has lectured history of renaissance and baroque music at Warsaw Theological Academy (current name - Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University (Uniwersytet Kardynała Stefana Wyszyńskiego). In 1989 she obtained her doctorate (Monteverdi, life and work). She is an author of numerous scientific and popular articles, a lecturer at Academy of Music in Gdańsk, Katowice, Warsaw. She cooperates with International Summer Academy of Early Music in Wilanów, Poland. She is also co-author of the book "Z dziejów muzyki polskiej" ("From history of Polish music"). |

Ukończyła Akademię Sibeliusa w Helsinkach w klasie skrzypiec Yoshiko Arrai i Kaji Saarikettu, doskonaląc następnie swe umiejętności w klasie mistrzowskiej Any Chumachenko w Monachium. Jej oficjalny debiut miał miejsce w 1991 roku w Helsinkach. Jednocześnie rozwijała swe zainteresowania wykonawstwem muzyki dawnej, studiując grę na skrzypcach barokowych w Hadze u Moniki Hugget i w Amsterdamie u Lucy van Dael. Jest członkiem słynnego zespołu muzyki współczesnej AVANTI, a także Helsinki Chamber Strings, Battalia, Sixth Floor Orchestra. Poza Finlandią utrzymuje regularne kontakty z Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Orkiestrą XVIII wieku, Concerto Copenhagen, La Stravaganza Koeln. Jest wieloletnim koncertmistrzem znakomitego zespołu Collegium Vocale z Gandawy, z którym występowała wielokrotnie także i w Polsce. Obecnie, grając na skrzypcach, altówce i violi d'amore, występuje na całym świecie jako solistka i kameralistka. Bardzo ważnym aspektem w jej karierze artystycznej jest praca z orkiestrami filharmonicznymi, którymi dyryguje od pulpitu koncertmistrza. Związana jest z wieloma orkirstrami fińskimi, z Orkiestrą Filharmoniczną w Stavanger (Norwegia), z De Philharmonie w Antwerpii (Belgia). W latach 2000-2001 była gościnnym profesorem w Hochschule fur Musik w Bremie (Niemcy). Obecnie wykłada skrzypce i altówkę barokową na Akademii Sibeliusa w Helsinkach, a od 2005 roku jest profesorem w Królewskim Konserwatorium Muzycznym w Kopenhadze. |

She studied in Budapest in professor Janos Sebestyn's class, then in Görlitz with John Toll and in Lipsk with Krystina Schonsheim. In 2000 Rita Papp was awarded the first prize in competition in Paris. She gives concerts in many European countries, performs often with Benedek Csalog. |

ZBIGNIEW PILCH - Poland
He graduated the Music Academy in Cracow in class of modern violin under prof. Z. Szlezer and then baroque violin under Z. Kaczmarski. He is a versatile violinist, virtuoso playing the violin, altoviolin and viola d'amore (music works from 16th to 21st century). He was the first, who playing the baroque violin, performed virtuoso concers by Vivaldi, Locatelli, Haydn and Janiewicz. He is a finalist of at the Locatelli Violin Competition in Amsterdam. Pilch was a member of Sinfonietta Cracovia, led many courses in playing the violin during the Days of Early Music in Żywiec. Since 2004 he has lectured baroque violin and baroque altoviolin playing at Music Academy in Wrocław. He is a concertmaster in Harmonologia and Orkiestra I Rzeczpospolitej. Playing with renowned music groups he performs in the whole Europe and many world countries. |

SIMON STANDAGE - Great Britain
The English violinist studied at Cambridge University with Ivan Galamian in New York City. After playing in the LSO he became, in 1973, a founding member, the leader and the first violinist (until 1991) of the English Concert. In this time, he performed and recorded violin concertos by Bach (the single and double concertos, and the Brandenburg Concertos), Vivaldi (awarded the prize Gramma for the recording of The Quatro Stagioni), Haydn and others. During this time, he was sub-leader of the English Chamber Orchestra from 1974 to 1978 and led the CITY of LONDON SINFONIA (the successor of the Richard Hickox Orchestra) from 1980 to 1989. In 1981 he founded the SALOMON QUARTET and five years later, in 1990 another ensemble COLLEGIUM MUSICUM 90 doing series of recordings with them for the record company Chandos. He played regularly with the Academy of Ancient Music throughout the 1980s. In 1991 Simon Standage became associate director of the Academy of Ancient Music and together with Christopher Hogwood played the role until 1995. He has been a professor of baroque violin at the Royal Academy of Music since 1983, and taught baroque violin and conducting at the Akademie für Alte Musik Oberlausitz in Görlitz since 1993.Since 1994 Standage has been leading master classes at International Summer Academy of Early Music in Wilanów, Poland. |

MAREK TOPOROWSKI - Poland
The Polish harpsichordist and organist graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw, studied organ under J. Serafin and harpsichord under L. Kędracki. He improved his musical abilities in France (Strasbourg), Germany (Saarbrücken) and Netherlands (Amsterdam). He was awarded the first prize of the Wanda Landowska First Polish Harpsichord Contest in Krakow (1985). His repertoire includes renaissance, baroque and early classical music. He is the founder and the conductor of CONCERTO POLACCO ensemble and chamber music choir SINE NOMINE. Marek Toporowski gave many concerts in Poland and abroad, recorded some CDs. Between 1990-1991 he taught harpsichord playing in Musikhochschule des Saarlandes. At present Marek Toporowski is also a professor in the Academy of Music in Katowice where he teaches in the harpsichord class. |

LUDMILA TSCHAKALOVA - Belgium
Born in London, studied piano and harpsichord at the Royal College of Music. Masterclasses with Kenneth Gilbert in Antwerp, followed by studies with Jos Van Immerseel at the Royal Antwerp Conservatory. A pioneer of harpsichord education for children and amateurs in Flanders, Belgium. Also a highly respected member of the higher education community, regularly invited as jury member for final examinations, regular guest of British Harpsichord Society. Has given masterclasses. Currently teacher at two civic music schools in Antwerp. Has played as soloist and with small groups throughout Great Britain (regular recitals in the Handel House in London) and Belgium; has visited Poland three times as player and lecturer. Her a forthcoming recording (2009) will be dedicated to the great French harpsichord composers (Louis and François Couperin, Chambonniere and d'Anglbert), of whose music Ludmila Tschakalova has brought highly acclaimed recitals. |

JACEK URBANIAK - Poland
Studied oboe and recorder at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. He worked as the first oboist of Oslo Opera, the Warsaw Chamber Opera and Warsaw National Philharmonic.
In 1981 he became the leader of ARS NOVA ensemble. Since then he has worked out for the ensemble its repertoire, conducted its concerts, tours and recordings. He has received awards from Polish Radio for reaching the roots of Polish culture and breaking down barriers separating tradition from contemporary life, then the Prize of Veteran for Warsaw. He was also nominated by the Polityka weekly for music achievements in 1995 - 1996 years. He is a co-founder of Polish Society of Early Music, the chairman of the Warsaw Music Society and the artistic director of the Early Music Festival of the Polish Music Society which is held at the Royal Palace in Warsaw. |

JAN WIĘCOWSKI - Poland
Musicologist, teacher, composer. He studied philosophy, history and musicology at University of Warsaw. He discovered the oldest musical notation in Poland (11th century), the oldest symphonia (18th century) and many other Polish compositions from 15th to 18th century.
He published more than 300 essays and academic articles in Poland and abroad. Jan Więcowski arranged more than 400 works of Polish early music and made a few hundred records of Polish music. He composes religious music, such as: cantatas, motetus, solo and choir songs, organ works. He worked as an artistic director for Polish Radio. At present he is a teacher and a chief editor at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. |
